Practical Skills for Graphics Design: Web Technology

Design and Research

My mission with this project is to create a companion app that allows users to check their progress in their favourite games. It will also allow users to buy new games, check on updates and even allow them to see sneak peeks of upcoming games. This app is useful because it allows users to check on games from anywhere without needing to boot up a console or pc.

Initial Ideas

Here are my ideas for features the app could have. I think these will useful because alerting users that the game is down stops them from going to the trouble of loading up the game just to be disappointed. Another feature I think will be useful is letting users make decisions on new updates or games. This is because it makes the user feel like they have a say and makes them feel more included. I’ve also made some goals for my app that I think will help improve the users experience.

Competitor Research

These are three different companion apps I made that are similar to the app I want to create.

Mood Boards

Here is the mood board I made for my app. The colour scheme I have chosen for my app will be purple, black and white. I chose this limited colour palette to not overwhelm users. There are also two possible colour pallets for my games ], this is because I’m unsure what colour scheme to [ick yet. The icons for my app will be in white to contrast the dark background of my app. I will also be making the icons myself and will follow a similar style to my inspiration on my mood board.

Intended Audience

The primary users for my app will be young people who are into gaming and need an app to keep track of their progress, buy new games and get updates.
