The subject I’ve chosen for this project is Aquariums. I have chosen this as my subject because I really enjoy going to the aquarium as I love sea creatures and find it calming. In this post I’m looking specifically at aquarium logos, how the graphic designer has used certain techniques to enhance the design and make it eye catching and therefor the viewer is able to instantly understand what it is advertising/representing. Good Example (Figure 1) A good example of typography Here is an example of a good typography and use of images to make it stand out and clearly…

Good Example (Figure 1) A good example of conceptual design Here is my example of good conceptual design. The bottom of the ‘Q’ looks like a wave, just like the North Carolina Aquarium logo I used as a good example of typography. The word aquarium is bigger than the location as it is the most important part to see, especially when people are walking past. The logo is also simple which makes it easy to understand. The reason this is a great example of conceptual design is because the I in the word aquarium doubles as an eye for the…

Good Example (Figure 1) A good example of composition This is my example of good composition. This is a poster for the Vancouver Aquarium advertising their shark exhibition. This poster is a good example because it’s simple in it’s design but tells the audience everything they need to know. The main focus of this poster is the shark in the middle, I think it’s more effective that there’s only half of the shark on the poster, this is because it looks like it’s swimming past just like you would see in an aquarium. Another great thing about this poster is…

Good Example (Figure 1) First good example of colour (Figure 2) Second good example of colour This is my good example of colour used in advertisements. These are posters to advertise a new exhibit at the New England aquarium. In these posters they use contrasting colours to catch people’s eyes and make them want to visit. The first poster shown uses a pastel blue background which could represent the water in the tanks at the aquarium. Then the sea creature is in a bright pink which contrasts the blue background well. The sea creature being bright pink also draws the…

It was hard to decide on a name for my logo so to help me decide I made a list of different words that could be used in my logo. I then combined some of the words together to try find something I like. The words I chose are associated with the ocean or land marks you would find there. Sketches I made to come up with the name of the logo. My first name for my aquarium was Tropical Wonders. I chose this because with the word tropical I could add more related themes like hibiscus flowers and sea…

For my 4 editorial pages I decided to make a leaflet that advertises my aquarium, Ocean Wonders. This is to inform families about what they can do on their days out and see what is on offer at the aquarium. Sketches Before started working on these leaflet pages in illustrator I did some sketches to help me plan out what I wanted my pages to look like. Sketches I made to plan out my pages. First Page The front cover and first page of my leaflet. This is the first page of my leaflet. The page on the right is…

For my three cover designs I chose to do three posters that advertise the attractions at the aquarium I created for Ocean Wonders. Each poster features a different sea creature in the same style of illustration. All posters look like they belong in a set however do not look the same. First Poster – Shark This is my first poster advertising my aquarium, Ocean Wonders. Thy grey background is not part of the poster, it is just to make the white borders visible. This was the first poster I created. I made the sharks more cartoon like to appeal more…
